Head of Wholesale Portfolio Risk Mgmt, & Senior Advisor ESG Risk | SAB

Gautam Mukharya is a seasoned banker and Risk professional having over 27 years of leadership experience in the financial sector across multiple geographies, with specialisation in credit, enterprise and climate risks. Gautam has spent over two decades working for HSBC Group across multiple C-suite roles in Asia Pacific, with his last role being Chief Risk Officer, HSBC Singapore, wherein he was also responsible for Risk teams in other Asia Pacific countries. He has most recently taken on the role of Head of Wholesale Portfolio Risk Management and Senior Advisor, ESG Risk for Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB) in Riyadh. Gautam is passionate about sustainability and climate risk, and has collaborated extensively with the industry and the regulators in Asia. He chaired the industry work-group that designed Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulatory guidelines on Environmental Risk Management (EnRM) for banks, and the Guidelines for Responsible Financing by Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS). He also chaired the risk management work-stream of Green Finance Industry Taskforce (GFIT) and was a member of Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) to ASEAN Capital Market Regulators and Ministries of Finance, where he chaired the work-stream on Transition Standards. He is currently sharing his expertise and experience with the ESG Banking Steering Committee (EBAC), a collaborative industry effort under the supervision of SAMA, and chairs the ESG Risk Management work-stream. Gautam joins his passion for sustainability with his enthusiasm for technology, and has been very active in the innovation eco-system as a thought leader, sponsor, mentor and advisor to many fintechs. During his tenure in Singapore, he actively contributed to the National KYC Utility project as well as to the Green ecosystem in use of technology & AI for solving Climate Risk and Data related challenges. As an esteemed member of the banking community, he continues to participate as a judge for many tech-focused, including demo day judge at the Singapore Fintech Festival (SFF). He sits on the Global Board of Advisors for number of fintechs, in the field of ESG and Risk management, as well as venture capital fund headquartered out of Singapore & UK.
